Fellow Warriors,
The current PTSA Board members are winding down the school
year by working alongside school Admin. to plan for the next
school year already.
It has been quite a rollercoaster ride this year, as
we congratulated Dr. Buckman on his retirement and welcomed Mr. Larsen
back to WOHS as the new school principal. We successfully hosted
our first ever Challenge Day event last August and look forward to
hosting 3 more days of events in Sept. '08. The driving classes
were also filled each time they were coordinated and many parents felt
it was an important step for their young driver. A new mentor
program is beginning in April, as well as another driving-related
program for students.
Last, but not least, is our membership drive this year
exceeded expectations - we increased our PTSA members by 25% more than
last year! Look for Fall membership info. coming out this summer
to make sure you continue reaping the benefits of being a parent,
teacher, or community member of WOHS!
All of us Board members are excited
about plans for the new Warrior Nation housed under one roof this
Fall and the opportunity to build even stronger relationships amongst
our students and teachers! We are all ready and willing to
return to our posts on the PTSA Board, if re-elected. At
this time you may also drop your name in the hat for one of
the elected Board positions:
President - responsible for coordinating board and
committee chairperson activities, as well as networking with local
businesses, community members, students, teachers, and parents.
1st
Vice-President - Provide attention to committee chairpersons directly
under your guidance. In the absence of the President, 1st VP will
perform duties of the President.
2nd
Vice President - Provide attention to committee chairpersons directly
under your guidance. Also, provide corresponding communication
from PTSA Board for special occasions/bereavements.
Recording
Secretary - Record the minutes of each PTSA monthly board meeting,
executive meeting, and general meetings. Take role, pass a
sign-up sheet, and gather contact information. Distribute meeting
minutes to all Executive Board members within 5 days of the meetings,
including an Action Item list.
Treasurer - Maintain the books for the
PTSA. Prepare a monthly financial statement. Disburse funds
as authorized and reconcile bank statements.
If you are interested
in volunteering for one of these positions, please send an
email to the PTSA Nominating Committee by March
24, 2008. Attn: Linda Smith at wowptsa@cfl.rr.com
The Nominating Committee will meet and present its recommended slate of
candidates for election. The candidates will be announced the
week of March 24th in the West Orange Times and an
upcoming PTSA newsletter.

"LET US
VOTE" PETITION DRIVE FOR CHAIRMAN POSITION IN OCPS
GAINS MOMENTUM
|
|
|
Petition drive to put the position on
the August state primary ballot.
The Florida Constitution provides that each school district
must have a school board comprised of five members or more. School
board members are elected to serve four year staggered terms.
Presently, Orange County's district school board chair and vice chair
are selected by the district school board members each year at the
school board's annual organizational meeting - not by the
electorate. Many local community leaders believe this structure
does not allow one person to be accountable or responsible for an
overall vision for Orange
County public
schools. The following is an article by these leaders that was
published in the Orlando Sentinel:
For more information and a copy of the
petition, please click on "Let Us Vote Orange" in the Article Link box.
To get this on
the ballot, 50,000 signed petitions must be received by June 1, 2008.
**"WOHS
PTSA does not endorse any political campaigns, however we provide
information to you in an effort to keep you informed of the
choices we all have as registered voters".

Summer School Will Be Held on Olympia and Ocooe
Campuses
Summer School will be held on both the Ocoee and
Olympia High School Campuses. We will utilize our teachers,
staff, and administration.
Once they receive their report cards, all
students will begin registering after spring break. Each student
will be asked to prioritize which campus they would prefer to take
their class but will not be guaranteed where the course will be
offered. Courses will be balanced between the two campuses
so as to not overload one school with students.
